3-2-1 Challenge

In my sermon on Sunday (scroll to the bottom to listen to the full sermon), I closed with a challenge to the congregation. In light of Jesus' teaching on "Superficial Religiosity" (Matthew 6:1-6; 16-18), I challenged the congregation to try the following for the next month. For 30 days, we are going to try to put these into practice without drawing attention to ourselves or seeking to be uber-spiritual. We are doing it with the sole purpose of growing in our relationship with God and seeking a revival in our congregation for a deep faith - one that goes beyond superficial religion to a dynamic embodiment of the kingdom.

3-2-1 Challenge (30 days)

3. Pray the Lord’s Prayer 3 times a day for the next 30 days

• not just say it, but really live it, think about what it means and model your life around it - if you want to go back and listen to the sermon series on the website to dig deeper into it  (click here)
• Take a few moments three times a day to be still and know that God is God and you are not.

2. Make 2 significant contacts per week that build community

• Share a meal (don’t eat lunch alone, invite another family over for dinner, etc.)
• Instead of scrolling through someone’s Facebook feed, go have coffee with them, pick up the phone and make a call, really make the effort to connect to someone
• Seek to be a peacemaker, seek reconciliation, build bridges, invest in people and relationships

1. Fast for 1 day each week and give away the money saved

• Maybe you need to fast from buying new stuff - use old and recycled stuff (instead of buying bags full of easy food, make what you already have in your pantry, instead of new clothes use what you have, instead of going to a movie play a board game with family)
• Maybe you need to go through some closets and give some stuff away
• Maybe you can use this as a time for simplifying
• Fast from social media and use the time to research and learn more about a hurting group in our world (learn about the victims of the Charleston shooting, about an oppressed people, how you can plug into racial reconciliation in our community, etc.)
