La Unción by Lázaro Ceballo Fernández.
"This piece is a unique and compelling image of Mary Magdalene anointing Jesus' head," notes theological scholar Beth Maczka, who commissioned this piece. There are only a handful of modern images depicting the anointing of Jesus' head inspired by Mark 14:3, and less than twenty known images in antiquity. Stan Dotson, who facilitated the commissioning and delivery of the painting, shared the following, “When Lázaro started sketching, his brother-in-law contracted hemorrhagic dengue and was in intensive care. Lázaro's daughter, Yeni María, a medical school student, was able to be with him in the intensive care unit and help care for him. After 30 days in the hospital, he recovered and went home. His is the face of Jesus in the painting, and the face of Mary Magdalene is that of Yeni María.”
