Transfigure. It’s one of those strange words we come across in the gospels that makes us pause and ask, “What does that mean again?” At it’s most basic, it means to change the form of something or to transform. Jesus had walked for 30 or so years upon the earth and for at least a few months among his disciples as a man, contained in human flesh. They could look into his eyes, hear his voice, touch his skin, smell his sweat. But, all of the sudden, in this moment, they saw his glory. They saw past his humanity for a brief instant and saw his divinity. In response, they did the only thing they could - they worshipped him. This month, as we look at this story and some other ones about those that have caught a glimpse of the glory of the Lord, may our eyes be open. May we catch a glimpse of the glory of our Lord and, like Moses, may our faces radiate with the reflection of his presence so that all the world may see.
