C = Compassion Team
Jesus calls us to care for those who are suffering, the "least of these" of our world described in Matthew 25. Ecclesia's Compassion Team, known affectionately as the C-Squad, provides opportunities for people to work together on projects designed to meet the needs of the least of these. SoulMATE (Mission Action Team Engagement) Squads gather together around common interests to see the face of Jesus in our community's most vulnerable populations:
Hunger SoulMATEs work to provide food to the hungry (for I was hungry, and you gave me food--Jesus). A SoulMATE Hunger Squad serves breakfast to Veterans at the ABCCM Veteran's Restoration Quarters on the first and third Saturday of each month. Another SoulMATE Hunger Squad works with the Lord's Acre project, a faith-based community garden providing fresh food to Food for Fairview and MANNA Food Bank.
Prison SoulMATEs work to visit those who are behind bars (for I was in prison, and you visited me--Jesus). A SoulMATE Prison Squad goes to the Buncombe County Detention Facility every Monday evening for Bible Study and prayer. Another SoulMATE Prison Squad goes to the Marion Correctional Facility periodically to provide music and worship experiences for the men there.
Health and Wellness SoulMATEs work to minister to the sick and suffering of our community (for I was sick, and you ministered to me--Jesus). One SoulMATE Health/Wellness Squad consists of Servant Leaders praying for and visiting the sick of our congregation. Another SoulMATE Health/Wellness Squad makes regular visits to area nursing homes.
Homeless SoulMATEs work to provide decent, sage, and affordable housing to the homeless of our community (for I was exposed and you provided shelter/clothing--Jesus). A SoulMATE Homeless Squad worked recently to help with Habitat for Humanity's Dream Build. Another SoulMATE Homeless Squad has assisted families desiring to leave public housing projects and seeking Section 8 homes in the community.
Friendship SoulMATEs work to develop relationships with those estranged or alienated from our community (for I was a stranger, and you welcomed me--Jesus). A SoulMATE Friendship Squad maintains a sister-church relationship with the River of Living Water Baptist Church in La Vallita, Cuba. This Friendship Squad has taken three teams to visit and support our partner church, and plans on hosting a team from there in the future.
